Patty Fawn Ivory Wolf Brooch with Abalone Inlay (#18-004)

Stunning NW Coast ivory brooch with abalone inlay, hand carved by renowned artist and jeweler Patty Fawn. Well carved in low relief from walrus ivory, this fine brooch depicts a totemic wolf in profile, in a crouching position. The eyes, heart, and feet are inlaid in a traditional manner with beautiful blue-green abalone shell. Patty Fawn is a member of the famous Lelooska family. Of Cherokee heritage, she and her family were adopted by the Kwak’waka’wakw (Kwakiutl) in the 1960’s. Her work is much sought after. The piece is signed on the back of the tail. There are two stable seams in the ivory which have a reddish color and are particularly evident on the back of the piece. A wonderful piece of NW coast wearable art, by a desirable artist.
