Large Antique Silver Tibetan Gau Amulet Box (#18-031)

A beautiful old Tibetan silver amulet box ‘gau’ of oval shape with typical Tibetan scrolling repoussé designs. Of a type that I believe was worn by women, it is quite a large example of the type. The scrolling designs resemble clouds. The two hollow lobes are hinged so that various protective and sacred items can be placed inside. The bottom of the Gau is decorated with a dorje or thunderbolt design. There is a slight gap in the closure of the box at the bottom left, otherwise in good antique condition, with good signs of wear and age.
