Los Castillo, Taxco, Sterling Mosaico Azteca Earrings (#18-050)

(#18-050)

Description

Los Castillo Taxco sterling and azurmalachite inlay earrings with pendant bells.  Circa 1955.  These fine old earrings have a wonderful pre columbian-inspired spiral design and were part of Los Castillos’ ‘Mosaico Azteca’ line of jewelry, produced between 1950 and 1965.  The expertly inlaid stone is azurmalachite, a naturally occurring mixture of lapis and malachite.  Each graceful spiral is further decorated at the bottom with four crotal-style silver bells.  Beautiful designed, and with an added acoustic quality from the bells.  The earrings are screwback style as is typical of Taxco earrings dating to the mid century, but could be converted to posts easily by a competent jeweler.  Fully hallmarked including the Eagle 15 mark.  An attractive and collectible pair of earrings by one of the most iconic Taxco workshops.

Circa: 1950-65.  1 3/8″ H, including bells  7/8″ W  Weight: 15.1 grams for the pair
