Chinese Champlevé Enamel Covered Jar with Foo Dog Finial (#18-019)
This beautiful little Chinese covered jar is decorated in the champlevé enameling technique on copper with gilding. The colors of the enamel are vibrant, depicting flowers and decorative patterns. The finial of the jar is modelled as a very fierce and charming foo dog, or temple guardian lion. The little lion is highly detailed and is even wearing a tiger bell necklace. The piece is in superb condition and had a small handwritten paper label on the base when I acquired it, reading: “Shi Cun Hong Kou,” which seems to be a village and place name. Circa: Early 20th Century Height: 3 3/8″
